Risk assessment projects

The following selection highlights key risk assessment projects I have contributed to as part of my ongoing work at Gexcon AS.

2025 to present Various projects on Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessels.
Assisted in explosion risk assessments (ERA) of FPSO vessels. This includes setting up of CFD simulations and standardization of workflow procedures via Python Snakemake.
2023 to present Électricité de France (EDF) - CFD simulations to assess safety in nuclear plants.
Built Python and Linux bash automation pipelines to streamline the entire workflow process, allowing efficient operations in dispersion and explosion simulations, and structural analysis. For instance, discretization and refinement of particular computational fluid regions of interest can be performed automatically for sensitivity studies. Avoid sleepy eyes from manually scrutinizing gigabytes of data stored in more than 100,000 data points!
2024 - 2025 Various projects on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and the use of alternative fuels in land-based turbines.
Built a python-based Cantera tool that allows accurate prediction of flammability limits, adiabatic flame temperatures, and laminar burning velocities for various fuel blends including hydrogen, methane, ammonia, and natural gas across a considered range of fuel composition.
Values predicted using Canteral tool are often within 2% of reported experimental values in UL9540A (UL9540A is an industrial test method standard for evaluating the potential for thermal runaway fire propagation in BESS. Stringent tests are performed by certified laboratory to determine the laminar flame speeds and flammability limits of BESS fuel composition).
2024 - 2025 Various projects on inert gas composition in gas clouds.
Wrote python script to accurately predict flammable gas volume with inert gas composition to overcome limitations of in-house CFD solver.
2023 - 2024 Legal assistance for Gexcon US expert witness testimony.
Assisted in analyzing 1000+ pages of legal documents, extracting the necessary technical information to support expert witness testimony in gas explosion cases.
2023 Den Magiske Fabrikken - quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of a biogas plant.
My first involvement in a QRA study. Created a tool that automates the task of manually counting equipment in Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Avoids manually counting each and every flange, valve, vessels or whatnots (totalling more than a 1000 at times). And imagine re-doing the counting whenever the process flow is changed after a safety review!
