About me
Hi, that's me, Yi Hao (photo on top). Or you can call me Yann. A Singaporean who has become addicted to Nordic skiing since arriving in Norway in 2018 to begin my PhD at NTNU. I like to spend my free time bouldering, climbing, swimming, and trying out different sports (ok, maybe not ice climbing). On days where I am not outdoors, I enjoy working on some of my projects like 3D printing and DIY electronics. Learning new languages (programming and linguistic) is also something I love doing.
A bit of my education and professional experience:
I did 2 years of military service (Singapore Armed Forces), then 2 more years of Bachelor's (National University of Singapore, NUS).
Then, as part of a double degree programme, 2 years of Diplôme d'Ingénieur (equivalent to a Master's) in CentraleSupélec, France, and another 2 years of Master's at NUS (phew, that's 4 blocks of 2 years).
In 2018, I started as a Marie Curie fellow (PhD) under the ANNULIGhT Marie Sklodowska Curie ITN European project at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). In collaboration with SAFRAN Helicopter Engines, I conducted experimental research focused on ignition and lean blow-off behavior in laboratory-scale annular combustors, advancing the understanding of critical combustion dynamics. The idea is to replicate the physics of the spinning combustion technology in an Arrano 1A Engine. I have also collaborated with CERFACS, a major European authority on combustion simuations, on numerical modelling (Large Eddy Simulation, LES). Exploring the use of non-carbon fuel, such as ammonia and hydrogen, has also been part of my work. If you are interested, my thesis could be found here. And if the first link doesn't work, over here!
Currently, I am working as a safety risk consultant in Gexcon AS, specializing in dispersion, fire, and explosion simulations for industrial safety applications using CFD tools such as FLACS. I am also involved in quantitative risk assessment using empirical modelling tools. Some of the projects I have been involved in could be found in the Gexcon projects page. In Gexcon, I also have a secondary role as an internal training coordinator. Some of these responsibilities include organizing training sessions, preparing training materials, and maintaining a common internal knowledge base for the company.
Feel free to reach out to me via LinkedIn if you would like to connect or discuss potential collaborations! And of course, do check out some of my works in the other sections of this portfolio website!
